My best friend in the world

My sweetest, most beloved Cleo died yesterday. I really don’t know how to express my sorrow and grief. She came into my life 12 years ago when I was 21 and had been my right hand through it all and it was a lot. She was the most loyal and loving being in my life, ever.

I wish I had something funny to say, a dead cat joke or something, but I just don’t.

I love you, my girl.

  1. Oh Jen, I am so sorry. Knowing what you’re going through doesn’t lessen it one bit. She lived your most important years together with you. Losing someone so special, it is a huge loss.

  2. I’m sorry to hear that. We brought three cats with us from the States, and they all lived to ripe ages in their mid-teens. But it still hurt when they were gone.

We just had a scare with our “new” cat Nena over the weekend. She seems to be OK now, after a €300 bill at the vet, but not fully recovered. She either poisoned herself on a plant or got into someone’s rat poison outside. Whatever.

  3. Jen,
I am so sorry for your loss.
We lost our dog of 16 years this Dec.

What I did and it may or may not help is go through your albums and collect every Cleo picture you have and put them in a folder or CD. My wife still has not (will not) look at this folder for our dog. But it feels like I have a tribute of her (Our dog’s) life. It was therapy. . for me.. . I’m very sorry Jen. . .I understand.

  4. Jen,
I am so sorry about your loss. I am glad that I got to meet Cleo. She was beautiful. Don’t worry about dead cat jokes. They are not needed.
    Sending you the best wishes,
    Claire

  5. There are cat people and there are people who have never felt the hand of the Creator comfort them on a cold winter night, when there is no one else who cares but the cat that somehow wandered into your life. I told a friend once that I believe cats have a special role, not all of them mind you, but many, and these chosen cats have the power to heal us when we are broken. In my life a cat has appeared at every major time of crisis – it’s a bit odd really but true. They are all love these fur ball belching beings – all love.

I wrote a song about one such cat event – email me if you would like a copy and I’ll email it back.

    Peace …

  6. No words, jen. :´(
I’m so sorry. I’m glad I got to meet her. It was obvious she was a beautiful lady, a sweet baby, and a best friend. And she tolerated us with grace. I feel your loss very deeply. Wish I was there to give you a hug. :´(

  7. Very sorry to hear about that, Jen. I know what it was like when I lost my cat many years ago. *hug*

  8. It is always hard to lose a pet, especially when they have shared a significant portion of your life. You have my sympathies.

  9. ok…seeing the photos…you’ve made me cry. I want to say more, offer a hug, a comfort but there’s really nothing I can say except, I love ya, Jen. oxoxo

  10. I don’t even know you or your cats but you had me in tears. One of my cats gives me a scare every so often and I don’t think I can bear the pain of him leaving. I am very sorry.

  11. i’ve never posted here and just started visiting, but i also was in tears. i don’t know what to say except that i am feeling your pain as mine resurfaces from the loss of my best friend kitty a few years ago.

i’m so sorry for your loss and broken heart.

  12. Oh, Jen, I am so, so,sorry and I understand completely. My first cat (who looked a lot like Cleo) was with me from college until right before JR was born, and I STILL miss her. But I feel so lucky to have had her to love, just as I know you do about Cleo.

    Hang in there.

  13. I am so sorry about the loss of your cat. Both of my cats have given me scares before; luckily they are still with me, but I know I will be a basket case when they go. To quote Sark, “Cats are angels with fur.” My thoughts are with you. Pets are family.

  14. Jen,

I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Just remember that she used to pee in your purses when she got pissed at you.

I know; you wouldn’t mind if that were to happen again if she were to be with you again. That’s when you know that there was a deep love (well, not exclusively, but it is one of the official things).
